A bloglet of sorts to keep you in the loop of all tings Aeon. Like how to win tickets and gigs and things from the people behind the scenes.

AEON WARM UP PARTY!

Friday 30th July
The Cavern Exeter
9pm-3am
£5 in advance southwestunderground.net
£6 on the door.

The gypsy-jazz outfit Sheelanagig is playing the party. Last year, the popular Bristol band headlined the Saturday on the Cabaret Voltaire stage, transforming the tent into pure dancefloor mayhem. For many, the combination of world-class musicality with witty showmanship proved to be a highlight of the festival. It’s no wonder this band secures high profile performances around the country at events like The Big Chill, Glastonbury and The Cambridge Folk Festival. Watch the You Tube Video on the link below to get an idea.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFdHgM7my-0

We’ve also got some great DJs to bang it out before and afterwards. Festival programmers The Magnet (JamtheChannel) and Mr. Puckey (Cabaret Voltaire) will be joined by Full Melt’s Freddy Pimms. They will play house, future funky, funk breaks and party tunes.

Tickets are £5 advance from Cavern (no booking fee) and online at the award winning swu website HERE

Don't forget this coming Friday 21st May Cabaret Voltaire presents REDLIGHT at the Cavern, Exeter.
Doors 9-2, last entry 1am.
£5 in advance.

Redlight makes dancefloor-focused electro house music fused with elements of breakbeat, dubstep, ragga and bashment. The support of huge DJs like Carl Cox, Skream and Jack Beats has helped Redlight rise to prominence in the last year, in particular a banging live mix for Radio 1’s Annie Mac, broadcast from Glastonbury. But this Brisol-based DJ is no stranger to the music scene – he used to make Drum and Bass tunes under the name of DJ Clipz for Roni Size’s Full Cycle label. Redlight’s debut, the floorfilling ‘Rock the House’, led to collaborations with Rusko, Ben Westbeech and Jenna G. He’s done remixes for Roots Manuva, Toddla T and Pendulum too. 2010 brings huge gigs at Glasto, Glade and Big Chill along with a full length album. Phew!

Check out their facebook group for ticket info HERE.

SOUTHWEST DRUM & BASS AWARDS 2010

We can't claim credit for any of the winners though Gods knows we'd like to but there is a certain amount of sentiment attached to some of them as over the past 4 years since JamtheChannel bought their Dance Tent to Aeon there are a few faces who have become very much part of the family. Their support has been awesome and it is only fitting that we celebrate their wins on here as well. Well done beys! The awards took place at Cornwall's Eden Project and was by all accounts a wicked night. The Rumble in the Jungle featured headline sets by Chase & Status, Subfocus, Benga, Friction, Krafty Kutz, A Skillz, Freestylers and Deekline. The Silverware was brought home by none other than 10 different crews who have been involved with Aeon since the year dot+1.

18.04.10 Take our Aeon Travel Survey HERE!
We are hoping to run a shuttle service to and from the festival thanks to the lovely people at Festival Coaches. The service will run from Exeter via Crediton but we would also like to offer more services from other areas if needed and run coaches from outside Devon if there are enough people wanting this kind of thing. It helps to keep our carbon footprint a bit smaller and to minimise the impact of vehicles in the local area. Please take a few secs to complete our little survey so we can offer the best service possible for people. Thank you!

10.04.10
Ok so today was gorgeous, the sun was shining and we pootled off to Shobrooke to start planning 'things' such as fencing, new camping area and tree surgery. Exciting stuff huh! But with it being so gorgeous our creative juices soon got flowing and I have to say we are really rather excited. Anyway so this being a bloglet it kind of gives a diary of thought processes for behind the scenes which I can list before I forget them so they don't get confined to the waste bin of the mind.

On a day to day basis I run a preschool which means lots of fun times with small people doing messy things and goofing around - In fact it compliments organsing festivals perfectly as you get to be silly but also behind the scenes involves policies, planning and extensive knowledge of legislation - I couldn't do one without the other. So anyway apart from the boring bits it also gives scope to share the silly bits. At Preschool we have Travelling Ted. He goes home with the children and they write a diary and take photos of him at their home. The last Ted went to the cinema and is still at large - or at least he came back looking completely different - rather like going on holiday only to find the kid's hamster has keeled over and you hope they won't notice he's now brown instead of piebald... So where is this going? Well meet Barry...

He'll be spending time at Aeon along with some friends and if you find him we want you to take him off on a Global Safari around the site and photo his journey.. Cocktails at dawn, raving at noon or maybe chatting up the local totty... You decide
Love N xx

PANGAEA
Mary Ann Hobbs described Pangaea’s recent mix on BBC Radio 1 as “texturally one of the most exquisite mixes of the year…breathtakingly beautiful in every way.” Exeter we treat you: Pangaea has emerged as a special talent in dubstep with tunes on Hessle Audio and Hotflush, DJ sets at nights like FWD and remixes for the likes of Untold. His releases approach the bass-heavy genres with a real musicality. Last year’s ‘Memories’ was a tune for the floor and a tune for the ears; atmospheric vocals, crispy beats and humming bass. The 23-year-old producer founded ‘Ruffage’, the dubstep night in Leeds. As a stalwart of dubstep’s new school, Pangaea co-runs the pioneering Hessle Audio label with Ramadanman and Ben UFO . Like his label mates, Pangaea mixes up music genres when he DJs – expect to hear dubstep, techno, future garage and UK funky.

With Mr. Puckey, Don Johnston, MTD and Wayward.

ODE TO A DUBIOUS PARENT.
Random prattling from Niki #1.

The teachers called me in today,
To explain that my son had misbehaved,
And had been teaching a younger child rude words and how to google naked ladies.
Spelt N-E-K-K-E-D L-E-D-E-S
- Oh, i said, quite concerned but more so
by the fact that my son’s spelling was so atrocious.
- And what was the other word?
I enquired somewhat reserved,
- Fanny rash
- Oh, i said, innocently, well it couldn’t possibly be from me.
But that i would ban the computer for a month, and chocolate biscuits from his lunch.
And so the mother in question rounded on me at the school gates,
You know the sort, 4x4 and afterschool clubs galore,
Son slightly overweight, pouting lower lip and a bit of a thug.
But i took the tirade and bore the brunt,
whilst smiling sweetly and looking concerned.
- Oh, but you see it couldn’t possibly come from me,
- In our house we use the word c—t.
